Russia is ready to cut ties with the European Union due to the sanctions, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov. This claim marks a new low in relations between both parties after the recent trip of Josep Borrell, EU foreign policy chief, to Moscow, which resulted in a diplomatic scandal.
The Kremlin’s bravado is especially interesting, given how many Russian politicians prefer to keep their assets abroad. Many send their children to study and work in the EU countries, too, fomenting hostility towards the West and discrediting it for the Russian audience – including the youth – at the same time.
