Crimea Unchained? First anniversary of the Crimean Platform

Crimea Unchained? First anniversary of the Crimean Platform. Ukraine in Flames #165

Crimea platform appeared as Ukraine’s response to the Russian occupation of Crimea and the blatant violations of international humanitarian law, such as forceful passportization, prosecutions and tortures of journalists, and eradication of both Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar identities.

The platform was launched by Ukraine in 2021 as a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea.

Aimed to reintegrate the annexed territory, in 2022, the platform has special significance amid Russian large-scale aggression in Ukraine.

Speakers:

  • Valeriy Chaly, Chair of the UCMC Board, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2009-2010), Ukraine’s Ambassador to the USA (2015-2019)
  • Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis
  • Eskender Bariev, member of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center
  • Maria Tomak, Head of the Crimea Platform Department at the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea
