Poland’s help for Ukraine refugees and beyond: Part 2

Poland’s help for Ukraine refugees and beyond: Part 2. Ukraine in Flames #242

Since the very beginning of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland has shown strong solidarity with Ukraine. Over 6 million Ukrainian refugees have crossed the Polish border looking for safety, and over 1, 5 million of them got asylum status in the country.

As the Polish government supports Ukraine’s political course for NATO and the EU, citizens of the country are also actively engaged in helping Ukraine. Volunteer initiatives, such as a crowdfunding campaign to buy a Bayraktar combat drone for Ukraine, inspire and motivate both the Ukrainian military and civilians.

Being a staunch ally of Ukraine, Poland is also making history as Ukraine is defending freedom and democracy in a civilizational war, and Russia fights for neo-imperial ambitions and dictatorship. —- The overwhelming support Poland has given to Ukraine during the full-scale war cannot be overestimated, and therefore UCMC devotes another episode of Ukraine In Flames project to this reliable ally to explore more sides of Polish aid to Ukrainians.

Ukraine is extremely thankful to its partner. To signal this and reciprocate a similar law approved by Warsaw, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on the special status of Poles in Ukraine in July 2022, establishing legal and social guarantees for Polish citizens residing in Ukraine.

The unabating dedication of the central Polish government, local authorities, and civil society in the support of Ukrainian refugees and the Ukrainian nation in the fight against Russian aggression is one of the things that keep Ukraine going in this exhausting war. Having such a true friend always ready to come to aid will help Ukraine win the war and heal its wounds sooner.
