Does Serbia support Russia’s war in Ukraine?

Serbia’s stance has been shifting closer to Russia amidst the latter’s full-scale war against Ukraine, with the country’s government and the public both displaying high levels of support for Putin and Russia. In particular, Serbia has not imposed sanctions on Russia or distanced itself from the Kremlin.

Such a position is connected with the injustice they claim were committed against both the country and the people during the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, and also by the fact that the major Sebrian energy companies come from Russia or were bought by it.

Still, Serbia did not recognize the annexation of Crimea, condemned the full-scale aggression against Ukraine at the UN General Assembly, and accepted refugees from Ukraine. There are also some civic organizations that manage to provide support to Ukrainians in their fight – RUBS Group, which stands for Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Serbs against the war, collects humanitarian aid and sends it to Ukraine.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
