Prioritizing renewable energy in post-war reconstruction

Russia’s regular missile attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure affect the entire Ukrainian energy system. After severe damage to the power grid, the rolling blackouts across the country turned into Ukrainians’ “new normality”.

As decarbonization remains Ukraine’s strategic goal, the further rebuilding and modernizing of Ukraine’s energy system will imply the modernization of the energy sector using renewable energy technologies. In the future, this system will also need higher energy sustainability.

This future implies access to inexpensive, reliable, sustainable, and modern sources of energy for everyone as well as maintaining energy self-sufficiency, diversification, and environmental acceptability. To achieve that goal,
Ukraine needs international assistance both for the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks and strategic support in the realization of the principles of
Sustainable Development.
