Shifting Allegiances: Examining Post-Election Changes in the Czech Republic

Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion, the Czech Republic has been a staunch ally of Ukraine. Despite the pro-Russian position of former president Milos Zeman, the government demonstrated strong and unconditional support for the Ukrainian fight for freedom.

With the newly elected president, retired NATO general Petr Pavel, the international support and military aid to Ukraine may become even stronger, and the interests of the Czech Republic itself will be better represented on the international scene.

According to Pavel’s statements, the Czech Republic will support Ukraine to the last moment in any case, which means standing with our country till the complete victory. Also, the visit to Ukraine will be one of his first foreign visits, which gives reasons for optimism both to the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian government.
