As the victory in WWII on of the pillars of the contemporary Russian National myth, the victory parade has symbolic meaning for Moscow as a demonstration of its strength.
However, this year’s parade on Red Square on May 9 became one of the smallest and shortest in history. Instead of a massive parade of military ground and aviation equipment, followed by fireworks and concerts, Russia was confined to a more modest event.
“The Immortal Regiment” march, one of the biggest symbols of Russia’s Victory Day, was canceled all over the country due to the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, not to mention the fact it was forbidden in other countries. How does this year’s humiliating Victory Day parade reflect Russia’s decadence and geopolitical isolation?
