Ukraine’s diplomatic resilience at the UN General Assembly

With the beginning of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, the UN General Assembly became one of the main platforms of Ukraine’s public diplomatic struggle against the aggressors. However, the Organization’s ability to influence the war turned out to be much smaller, in particular due to the presence of the Russian Federation in the permanent composition of the Security Council.

Ukraine’s diplomacy at the UN is evidence of the country’s commitment to peaceful settlement and compliance with international law, as well as its determination to resist external pressure. Also, voting for “Ukrainian” resolutions is a good indicator for Ukraine of which countries it needs to work with in order to achieve its goals.

Nevertheless, Russian propaganda is also present at such an official international level, coming from the representative of the Russian Federation Nebenzya and Foreign Minister Lavrov. The facts of Russia’s abuse of a diplomatic platform for waging an aggressive war against a democratic country cast deep doubt on the organization’s future.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
