Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine is taking place in a massive number of dimensions. Still, the struggle in the Black Sea is one of the most important because it is essential for the Ukrainian economy. Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian forces have made considerable progress in pushing the Russian fleet as far as possible from its territorial waters and maritime trade routes.
Almost nothing is left of the naval blockade that Moscow created at the beginning of hostilities. The Ukrainian military maximally reduced the capabilities of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation to operate in the northwestern part of the Black Sea with high-precision strikes.
The strikes on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet and the destruction of a large number of amphibious and missile ships call into question the Kremlin’s ability to wage war at sea against Ukraine. These actions also reduce the capabilities of the Russian Federation in the defense of Crimea from a potential offensive by Ukrainian forces, so what is the future of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea and does it even exist?
