Azovstal: what Russia does and what the world can do

Azovstal Metallurgical Plant has become a real unbreakable fortress and a symbol of Ukraine’s unconquered. The Russians continue to try to take Azovstal, they have been going on for 2.5 months, but all these attempts have crashed on “Ukrainian iron”.

The Russian aggressors are currently attacking the Azovstal metallurgical plant not only with aircraft and artillery, but again with tanks, and are trying to break through with manpower. The Russians are blocking exits from underground bunkers where Ukrainian defenders are hiding, but even so, the Ukrainian military is carrying out successful counter attacks against the invaders. Among the defenders of Mariupol, who are on the blocked Azovstal, there are more than 600 wounded.

Marine Brigade Commander Serhiy Volyna asked American billionaire Elon Musk to help Azov fighters with the extraction procedure. At the same time, the commanders of the units at Azovstal are convinced that the Armed Forces can unblock Mariupol by military means. However, as previously reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the operation to release the Ukrainian military from the Azovstal plant will require the efforts of a significant number of troops and could lead to significant losses.

Several times the defenders of Mariupol asked to apply the extraction procedure to them. The extraction procedure is the process of withdrawing the personnel of any army from a hostile environment to an area controlled by friendly forces. However, Russia does not agree to this, proving time and time again that it is committing acts of genocide against Ukrainians.
