Ukrainian frontline cities survive the war: Sumy. Ukraine in Flames #149
From the first days of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, fierce fighting has taken place in the Sumy region (north-eastern part of the country), which borders with Russia. Some of the settlements of the region were the first to meet Russian troops and therefore got under occupation and then were liberated by Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Due to the solidarity of city residents, the Ukrainian flag never disappeared from the regional center. Territorial Defense forces armed themselves, confiscated” some specimens of Russian military equipment, and started patrolling entries of the city.

While Russian occupiers were trying to intimidate local residents with columns of military equipment and heavy artillery shellings, they were creating volunteer military formations, which later joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, donating blood for the wounded defenders and doing volunteer work.
