Victims Among Children as of March 17

Russia’s armed forces continue to launch missile strikes on civilians, including children, cynically disregarding international humanitarian law – Ukraine’s General Prosecutor Office Офіс.

  • As of the morning of March 17, 2022, 108 children were killed and more than 120 injured. Children suffered the most in Kyiv – 52, Kharkiv – 34, Donetsk – 25, Chernihiv – 24, Mykolaiv – 20, Zhytomyr – 15, Sumy – 14, and Kherson regions – 10.
  • The bombing and shelling damaged more than 411 educational institutions, 63 of which were completely destroyed. The most was damaged in Donetsk – 119, Kharkiv – 77, Mykolaiv – 30, Sumy – 28, Kyiv – 35, Kherson regions – 21 and the city of Kyiv – 24. More than 11 medical institutions, 3 rehabilitation centers, including for children with disabilities, were fired upon.
  • These data are not conclusive due to the inability to inspect the sites where active hostilities are taking place and in the temporarily occupied territories.
  • On March 16, 2022, the occupiers dropped a bomb on the Donetsk Regional Drama Theater in Mariupol, where about a thousand civilians, mostly women and children, were taking refuge. The exact number of victims cannot be determined, as shelling continues in Mariupol. There is information about the first victims, including children.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia region, a car with civilians exploded as a result of mining by the aggressor’s servicemen, killing a 6-year-old child.
