Why Russian “Accession” of the Occupied Ukrainian Territories Is a Fake

Having proceeded with the illegal “referendums” held at gunpoint in the occupied parts of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, Putin may announce the formal accession of these territories to Russia in his planned address to both houses of the Russian parliament on September 30.

Ukraine and its partners have already reassured the aggressor that it is not going to change the course Ukrainian defenders have taken to liberate all occupied territories from Russian invaders. The next package of stronger sanctions is on its way, while the military aid continues arriving to Ukraine, and more weapons deliveries have been announced.

It is clear that the hasty fake votes, as well as the mobilization launched in Russia, are signs that the aggressor is failing but nevertheless wishes to prolong the suffering of Ukrainians.
