After the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the formation of sanctions policy became one of the most essential tasks of the Ukrainian diplomatic corps. The imposed sanctions packages have caused considerable damage to the Russian economy and limited its markets, locking it to a few partners and making it challenging to import technologies necessary for war.
Sanctions against Russian oil were introduced with long delays, so as a result, the Russian Federation managed to earn a lot of money before the price ceiling was raised. However, the sanctions still significantly affected the Kremlin’s ability to manipulate energy carriers as political leverage.
Russian liquefied gas is the next milestone in the sanctions policy of the Ukrainian partners, but delays in adoption directly affect the effectiveness of this tool for countering Moscow’s aggression. So, will these sanctions be as effective as those against oil and force the Russian Federation to look for at least some kind of buyer for its resources?
