Kyiv, July 6, 2016. On July 4, the National Guard of Ukraine received observer status in the Association of European and Mediterranean gendarmes and police forces (FIEP). This is a transitional status that is given for a year and allows for deepening cooperation before moving forward to full membership in the organization. This was reported by Col. Volodymyr Hrabchak, Acting Head of International Cooperation Department, the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine, at a briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “Formally, the National Guard will be recognized as an observer at the Summit of the Association by the directors, which will be held on October 11-14 in Bucharest,” he said.

According to Hrabchak, FIEF brings together law enforcement agencies, which have the status of military institutions of Europe and the Mediterranean. Its members cooperate in solving crisis situations and overcoming common challenges. “After the National Guard joins the Association, it will get an access to reform processes of similar European institutions and take over their experience and best international practices in protection of citizens. It will also help the National Guard adapt to EU requirements,” noted Col. Hrabchak.
