Ministry of Defense: 12 Ukrainian servicemen killed and 20 wounded in action last week

Last week, the number of cease-fire violations committed by Russia-backed militants ranged between 11 on Friday, July 21st, and 29 on Thursday, July 20th, reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman Vilyen Pidgornyy at a weekly briefing held at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Luhansk sector

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Russian-backed militants opened fire using small arms at positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces all across the front line.

On Thursday and Friday, Russian proxies opened mortar fire at Krymske. Over the weekend, invaders fired at positions of Ukrainian army with grenade launchers.

Last week, the daily number of ceasefire violations by the enemy ranged between 4 (July 21) and 13 (July 20).

Donetsk sector

On July 17 and July 18 pro-Russian militants engaged Avdiivka with mortars. The number of mortar bombs, discharged against the positions of Ukrainian forces, averaged at 40 per day. On July 19, militants opened fire with small arms at Luhanske, Avdiivka and Pisky.

On July 20, Russian proxies opened mortar fire in the area of Avdiivka and Donetsk airport. On July 21, invaders opened fire against Avdiivka residential areas once again. On July 22, Russia-equipped militants initiated a medium-intensity mortar attack against Verkhniotoretske.

Last week, the daily number of cease-fire violations in Donetsk sector ranged between 4 (July 21) and 13 (July 18 and 20).

Mariupol sector

Last week, the tensest situation was registered in Krasnohorivka. On July 17, invaders opened high-intensity mortar fire against Ukrainian positions not far from the city, having fired 85 mortar bombs just in 3 hours. On July 18, the enemy used Main Battle Tanks to fire at Krasnohorivka. On July 19, positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces came under enemy mortar fire once again.

On July 20, at about 1.30 am Russia-equipped militants initiated a complex fire with mortars and artillery of various caliber against positions of Ukrainian military near Krasnohorivka. Later, at approximately 4 am, two subversive groups of Russia-trained militants (15-20 people), under the cover of enemy artillery, mortars as well as four Main Battle Tanks, advanced to the positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukrainian troops engaged the enemy and opened direct fire in response, which resulted in ceasing the attack and withdrawal of enemy troops in just a few hours.

On the weekend, enemy troops continued to fire mortars against Krasnohorivka, and occasionally opened fire with grenade launchers at Maryinka and Pavlopil.

Last week, the daily number of ceasefire violations ranged between 2 (July 23) and 9 (July 19).

Intelligence data

The total number of casualties amongst Russian proxies amounts to 11 killed and 31 wounded over the week.

Casualties

12 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action and 20 wounded in action last week. Among them, 4 servicemen were killed and four – wounded as a result of booby trap explosions.  One Ukrainian serviceman was captured during the combat near Krasnohorivka on July 20.

Civilian casualties

As a result of one of the attacks on July 18, two male civilians were wounded in the residential area of Avdiivka. On July 21, two female civilians and two children were wounded.

Civilian buildings and infrastructure damage

Last day one of the enemy shells hit a private home in the Krasnohorivka. Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports that the day before two enemy drones conducted active aerial surveillance near Krasnohorivka.
