Ministry of Defense: Militants fire over thirty 120-mm mortar rounds near Bakhmut road
Kyiv, August 12, 2017.

In Luhansk sector, Ukrainian troops recorded nine cases of militants’ ceasefire violations, and more than half of them involved heavy weapons. Russian proxies used light weapons in Krymske and Novooleksandrivka after midnight, and employed mortars along Bakhmut road, namely near Novotoshkivske, Krymske, Shchastia and Syze. “Hostile mortar attacks were most intense in Bakhmut road where the enemy fired over 30 120-mm mortar rounds in total. These shellings typically took place during sunset or after it,” sais Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Donetsk sector, most hostile attacks took place near Avdiivka. The first attack started around 02:00. Militants used grenade launchers and large caliber machine guns, and also fired four mortar rounds. By the end of the day Russian proxies violated the ceasefire three more times starting from 11:00. “No heavy armor was used, and each attack continued for two hours on average. Moreover, militants attacked our positions in Zaitseve with large machine guns late at night,” elaborated Col. Lysenko.

In Mariupol sector militants violated the ceasefire six times. Attacks started around 19:00 in the southern area of the sector – in Hnutove, Lebedynske, Vodiane and Shyrokyne. “Militants used mortars together with light weapons in Lebedynske and Shyrokyne, firing a total of 10 rounds,” noted the spokesman. Russian proxies also used light weapons in Maryinka district late at night. The attacks continued for an hour.

No Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action yesterday, but six troops were wounded. Moreover, one soldier died and three sustained injuries after tripping explosive devices. “These incidents happened near Avdiivka and Zaitseve,” said Col. Lysenko.
