Ministry of Defense: Militants fire over 20 mortar rounds in Maryinka

An intense mortar attack started just after the midnight in Maryinka yesterday. “It lasted less than 15 minutes, but militants fired at least 20 mortar shells,” informed Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO – related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector main hostilities took place in Popasna district yesterday. Russian proxies were using mortars and light weapons. Militants opened fire in Stanytsia Luhanska district and near Krymske several times. In total, Ukrainian troops registered seven incidents of ceasefire violation in this sector, and four of these involved heavy weapons.

In Donetsk sector regular hostile attacks take place in Kamianka-Avdiivka-Shakhta Butovka position. “The enemy sporadically used mortars and was shooting from eastern and southern directions yesterday,” said Col. Motuzyanyk. Moreover, militants used mortars near Svitlodarsk area and Zaitsevo. In total, militants conducted 11 attacks in this sector, using heavy weapons four times.

In Mariupol sector militants opened fire not only in Maryinka yesterday. Russian proxies fired from 122-mm cannons simultaneousl in Hnutove, Vodiane and Talakivka. They were shooting from three positions at the same time, with brief recesses. Militants fired over 50 rounds at Ukrainian positions during four hours. Three hostile attacks also took place in three other positions in Mariupol sector. The enemy used light weapons. In total, militants attacked 10 times in Mariupol sector, and seven attacks involved heavy weapons.

No Ukrainian troops were killed in action, but four soldiers were wounded.
