Conflict chronology, August 24 – 30, 2017: New ceasefire since August 25, 2017

On August 24, the largest number of militants’ attacks was recorded in Luhansk sector. In six of the 11 cases, militants used mortars. They shelled Bakhmut road, Popasna district, Stanytsia Luhanska and Zhovte. In Donetsk sector, militants used light weapons along the Avdiivka –  Shakhta Butovka position frontline, and mortared Troitske and Svitlodarsk area. In Mariupol sector, militants fired 10 mortar rounds in Chermalyk; they also violated the ceasefire in Taramchuk and Vodiane. Over the day, three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded as a result of militants’ attacks. One of the wounded died on the night of 24 – 25 in a military hospital.

On August 25, in Donetsk sector militants attacked Zaitseve with small arms. The Avdiivka –  Shakhta Butovka position was attacked intermittently until the end of the day with machine guns and grenade launchers. In Mariupol sector, militants used light weapons in Chermalyk – Shyrokyne frontline. In the morning, the enemy opened machine-gun fire upon Vodiane, and in the evening, they were attacking Hnutove for almost three hours. In Luhansk sector, militants attacked Malynove with grenade launchers. Over the day, three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded.

On August 26, militants used grenade launchers and machine guns near Zaitseve and Avdiivka in Donetsk sector. There was a total of 13 enemy attacks in this sector. In Luhansk sector, militants used small arms at Stanytsia Luhanska. In Mariupol sector, the intensity of militants’ shelling increased, there were 21 cases of ceasefire violations. Russian proxies used grenade launchers and small arms in attacks in Pavlopil – Shyrokyne frontline. On that day, one serviceman died in Kharkiv hospital of wounds received on August 19 near Krymske.

On August 27, low-intensity combat operations were conducted almost on all fronts in Donetsk sector. Militants carried out 10 attacks with light weapons, and one mortar attack in Avdiivka. In Mariupol sector, militants attacked Vodiane most actively and used small arms also in Bohdanivka, Hnutove and Lebedynske.

On August 28, militants opened fire at Stanytsia Luhanska in Luhansk sector. In Donetsk sector, militants carried out 11 attacks, using heavy weapons in three of them. They attacked the Avdiivka – Shakhta Butovka position frontline as well. In Mariupol sector, militants mortared Krasnohorivka and attacked Vodiane, Talakivka and Shyrokyne with small arms.

On August 29, in Donetsk sector militants used light weapons against Zaitseve five times, Avdiivka six times, and Shakhta Butovka position once. In Mariupol sector, militants used small arms in Vodiane – Shyrokyne frontline and Krasnohorivka seven times. In Luhansk sector, militants shelled the Ukrainian military positions near Krymske twice.

On August 30, pro-Russian militants opened fire with light weapons at Ukrainian military positions in Kamianka-Avdiivka-Shakhta Butovka position frontline in Donetsk sector. Besides, they attacked Zaitseve twice, once with IFV mounted weapons. A total of 10 ceasefire violations were recorded in this sector. In Mariupol sector, the enemy carried out four attacks in Lebedynske, Vodiane and Shyrokyne using large-caliber machine guns and mortars.
