Ministry of Defense: Two Ukrainian troops killed, five wounded by an unidentified explosive device

Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire three times in eastern Ukraine yesterday. At night on January 17, two Ukrainian troops were killed and five injured as their vehicle was blasted by an unknown explosive device. “Two more Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in hostile attacks near Vodiane,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies delivered two precision attacks on the Ukrainian troops’ positions yesterday. Militants attacked Novoluhanske with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. “In the evening, the enemy mortared Ukrainian positions in Troitske area having fired four 82-mm rounds,” Colonel Hutsulyak said.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants fired three 120-mm mortar rounds against the positions of Ukrainian troops outside Vodiane. Ukrainian troops did not return fire.
