Around 300 civilians were killed as Russia dropped a bomb on Mariupol’s Drama Theatre on March 16, Mariupol City Council said.

“Witnesses say around 300 people were killed inside the Drama Theatre in Mariupol as Russian aircraft dropped a bomb on it. We refuse to believe this horrible news, but those who were inside confirm it,” a statement by Mariupol City Council reads. Signs highlighted children were sheltering in the theatre, but that did not stop the Russian forces. That was a deliberate attack, the city council proceeds. “There is no explanation for this inhumane cruelty. There will be no forgiveness for those who brought to our home destruction, pain, and suffering.”

Mariupol’s Drama Theatre has always been a city’s landmark and meeting spot. It exists no more. It lies in ruins, and hundreds were killed under the rubble. “The Drama Theatre was cynically destroyed by Russia. We will rebuild houses, but we will not return our loved ones, friends, neighbors. May the innocent victims of Russia’s war against Ukraine rest in peace,” Mariupol City Council said.
