Tamara Oleksiy: Ukrainians showed their loyalty to democratic principles

The presidential elections on May 25 reflect the will of Ukrainian people and comply with the standards of free and fair elections. This was the declaration representatives of Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) made during their briefing in Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

«Despite minor innumerous infringements, including presence of publicity on the election day, cases of inaccuracies in the lists of voters at several voting stations and complaints of voters pertaining to huge queues in Kyiv, our observers reported the election process to take place calmly and in compliance with the current legislation, meeting democratic standards», – reported the president of Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, head of the UCCA mission, Tamara Oleksiy.

222 observers from the UCCA visited more than 600 voting stations. The international observers mission at the elections from the UCCA monitored the pre-term elections of the President of Ukraine in Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolayiv, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, Zakarpattya, Zaporizhzhya and Zhytomyr, as well as oversea voting stations in the USA. The UCCA observers did not visit voting stations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. «The UCCA condemns aggressive Soviet methods used by Russia-supported armed separatists for the elections undermining. We support brave citizens of Donetsk and Luhansk, Ukrainian people and Crimean Tatar community, who were risking his safety to vote at the elections», – emphasized the head of the UCCA mission.

The UCCA representative noted that they have always supported commitment of Ukraine and Ukrainian people to remain unitary and democratic country. «What matters now is to conduct real reforms, first and foremost to fight corruption. It will secure further safe and gradual economic development, fast integration into European community and extension of bilateral American-Ukrainian relations», – stated the UCCA vice-president, co-head of the UCCA mission Andriy Futey.
