Kyiv, 18 June 2014 – Within the “West Wing” initiative “Automaidan” activists are planning to collect 1mln signatures for the petition to the European Parliament to grant Ukraine the status of EU member state candidate. Activists plan to arrange round tables in 15 European countries to support the initiative, said “Automaidan” representatives Kyrylo Marlynsky and Dmytro Karp at a briefing in the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.
“It’s a public initiative, says Kyrylo Marlynsky, launched to spread truthful information about Ukraine. There’s a considerable gap between what is actually going on in Ukraine and what Europeans see”.
“EU citizens will be able to sign the petition online. Our main target is to submit 100 thousand signatures to the European Parliament before the Summit in Riga,” explained their target Dmytro Karp.
To support the initiative “Automaidan” will hold round tables in 15 EU capitals from 1 to 27 July. Ukrainian diaspora, business associations and other locally-based organizations will help organize the events.
“Automaidan” has also scheduled a public opinion poll to be conducted among the EU citizens. It is expected that the poll will help in finding out the EU citizens’ opinion on the situation in Ukraine and on the Ukraine-EU perspectives.
“Automaidan” representatives called on sponsors and public initiatives representatives to cooperate, as well as invited international journalists and cameramen to join them on the trip and share 11 thousand km of the way.
