Colonel Andriy Lysenko: Number of attacks significantly decreases in Donetsk sector

Kyiv, June 18, 2016. The number of attacks significantly decreased in the Donetsk sector, reaching not more than eight attacks and armed provocations. Nevertheless, a shelling near Avdiivka lasted almost 90 minutes, while militants used mortar launchers, anti-aircraft mounts, grenade launchers of various types, machine guns and small arms. In total, militants launched 31 mortar shells in the vicinity of Avdiiivka and Putylivska coal mine. Moreover, one provocation was registered near Luhanske settlement and another one near Troitske, in both cases Russian mercenaries were shooting from grenade launchers and small arms, informed spokesman of Presidential Administration on ATO related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In the Mariupol sector, half of the attacks took place on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Mariinka. “Occupants used no heavy armor here last night, but almost every shelling was followed by fire from grenade launchers. Militants used a large machine gun to shoot at Mariinka checkpoint around 7.00 p.m. Two civilians were wounded and taken to hospital without delay,” said Col. Lysenko.

According to the spokesman, militants used mortar launchers in the vicinity of Talakivka, Bohdanivka and Pavlopol. Moreover, they were shooting from a armored personnel carrier near Starohnativka. Two other militants’ provocations were registered not far from Vodiane village. Russian also proxies shelled Lobacheve village in the Luhansk sector once.


Col. Lysenko informed that Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no fatalities in combat over the last 24 hours. Five troops were wounded, one of them near Putylivska coal mine and four in the vicinity of Mariinka.

Intelligence informs that local inhabitants of Kalyniskyi district in the temporarily occupied Horlivka were attempting to lynch militants who were intentionally shelling ATO troops to provoke return fire.
Militants Oleksandr Drobko, Ruslan Utanov and Andriy Konokiuk were extremely injured. According to intelligence, five militants died and three were wounded today.
