Colonel Lysenko: Ukrainian Armed Forces incur no losses yesterday, number of militants’ attacks decreased

Militants attack in Donetsk sector 12 times and in Mariupol sector 18 times. Illegal weapons seized from civilians at a checkpoint in Mykhailivka

Kyiv, September 16, 2016. Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat yesterday, and three troops were wounded. One serviceman sustained a blast injury as a result of tripping explosive device in Krymske and Avdiivka. “The situation in the ATO zone slightly improved yesterday. A number of hostile attacks decreased. Occupants used no tanks and canon artillery. Such decrease is related to the ministers of foreign affairs of European countries visiting Ukraine, and Donetsk region in particular. Nevertheless, the armistice does not hold, as militants continue shooting almost in all the key fighting points,” informed Colonel Andriy Lysenko, spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on ATO related issues at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Militants conducted two attacks in Novooleksandrivka village in Popasna district. It happened during the hours of darkness. No heavy armor was used. Main hostilities in the Donetsk sector took place in two districts – in Zaitseve, mostly in the afternoon, and in Avdiivka before noon. “Occupants delivered two mortar attacks in Zaitseve, launching 11 mortar shells,” added Col. Lysenko. In total, 12 militants’ attacks took place in the Donetsk sector yesterday; two of them involved use of heavy armor.

In the Mariupol sector militants violated the ceasefire in three inhabited localities – Mariinka, Novotroitske and Shyrokyne. In addition to all available small weapons, Russia-backed militant groups were using armored personnel carrier. “The main “session” of militants’ shooting started after 6 p.m. In total, 18 hostile attacks took place in the Mariupol sector yesterday,” informed the spokesman. Militants organized one reconnaissance attacks of unmanned aerial vehicle in Shyrokyne.

Law enforcements seized two anti-tank grenade launchers, three grenades and 237 cartridges for assault rifle at checkpoint in Mykhailivka village of Donetsk region. “The offenders were three men who said they came by these things by accident and decided to keep it,” elaborated Col. Lysenko.
