Ruslana Appealed to the World for Uniting in Struggle Against Putin’s Propaganda

Kyiv, March 11, 2014 – During a briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center, singer and activist Ruslana called on the global community to take any possible actions to resist Putin’s propaganda. “The Crimean problem is a global problem,” the recent US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award winner said.

She called European countries “gullible” towards information spread by Putin’s propaganda, specifically statements about spreading of fascism in Ukraine. “People of Russia live in Putin’s  information. Polls are showing that unfortunately this Russian technique works very well in Germany, Turkey and all over the world, Ruslana said.

The singer announced the creation of a global initiative to counteract Putin’s propaganda.

Ruslana also appealed for initiating a global economic blockade of Russia: “Nothing will work without it. It’s the only way to stop the war. Unfortunately Europe has been taking a back seat for too long in the situation.”

Ruslana called on the Ukrainian and global community to help preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine and support Crimean Tatars in their effort to remain a part of independent Ukraine: “The boycott of the Crimean referendum is our main goal. Putin divides Ukrainian families. All of us need to be concerned about Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars living in Crimea today.”
