Amidst a vast Russian military buildup near Ukraine’s borders and in the occupied territories, a lot of hopes were placed on the call between the US and Russian presidents in that it would bring about the de-escalation of tensions, as that was the case with the previous similar situation in April this year.
While neither side reported significant progress on the solution to the crisis at the Ukraine-Russia border, the Biden-Putin meeting served as yet another confirmation of the US and allies’ support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The US leader signaled a stern response in case of further escalation and rejected Putin’s ridiculous demands.
