Kyiv, 10 July 2014 – The case of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko has been taken hostage is under personal control of Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister. “For me the situation with Nadiya Savchenko is not only about politics. Moreover her detention goes far beyond not only political but also beyond moral limits. Russia has violated all possible documents, agreements and international conventions,” stated the Minister at his briefing in the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.
Ukrainian officer Nadiya Savchenko was taken hostage by terrorists in Donbas. Later it became known that she is being kept in a detention center in Voronezh, Russian Federation. She is being charged with murder of Russian journalists. Pavlo Klimkin underlined that the Ukrainian side will do everything possible to free Nadiya Savchenko from Russian captivity. Head of the Foreign Affairs Ministry noted that Ukrainian Consul has already arrived in Voronezh and is supposed to talk to Nadiya Savchenko today. Ukrainian side is searching for a new attorney for the Ukrainian pilot as “we have no trust in the attorney provided by the Russian state,” Pavlo Klimkin noted. “Ukraine counts on support of international community regarding this case. We have already informed the whole international community on this case. We need a large-scale campaign to support Nadiya Savchenko. The situation when the Russian court considers a case of a Ukrainian citizen behind closed doors is unacceptable,” underlined the Minister.
