Ministry of Defense: Russian proxies commit 24 ceasefire violations, keep using Minsk-proscribed weapons

Russian proxies committed 24 ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine yesterday Ukrainian troops responded with fire in 10 cases using weapons not prohibited by the Minsk agreements, reported Col. Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire 16 times. The most powerful attacks took place in Luhanske, Zaitseve, and Novoluhanske areas.  During the nighttime, militants fired eleven 120-mm mortar rounds near Novozvanivka, Katerynivka, and Travneve. In the evening, they resumed mortar attacks. “Militants fired ten 120-mm mortar rounds at Ukrainian positions in Novoluhanske and almost the same number of 82-mm rounds in Zaitseve and Luhanske,” added the spokesman.  Ukrainian servicemen returned fire three times.

In Donetsk sector, militants violated the ceasefire eight times. “For instance, in Avdiivka and Opytne areas the enemy violated the ceasefire three times, using mortars and small arms. In the morning and during the day, they fired almost sixty 82-mm mortar rounds,” elaborated Col. Motuzyanyk.  Near Vodiane militants also attacked Ukrainian position with  82-mm mortars, in the vicinity of Bohdanivka they used IFV weapons and grenade launchers.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no casualties yesterday.
