Macron hosts meeting of two dozen European leaders in Paris to bolster support for Ukraine

French President, Emmanuel Macron, convened a conference of over 20 European heads of state and government in Paris on Monday, calling for western countries to step up their support for Ukraine.

The meeting at the Elysee palace included German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda as well as leaders from around 15 European nations.

The United States was represented by its top diplomat for Europe, James O’Brien, and the U.K. by Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi addressed the leaders via videolink.

The meeting takes place at a time when the latest U.S. military aid package for Ukraine has stalled in Congress. Macron earlier called on European leaders to ensure the continent’s “collective security” by providing unwavering support to Ukraine.

Ukraine catches up with Russia on production of drones resembling Shaheds

Ukraine has caught up with Russia on production of suicide drones resembling the Iranian-made Shaheds, Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin said in televised comments on Monday.

He said Ukrainian-made drones resemble the Iranian in “weight of explosives they can carry, range and other technical specifications.”

“This year, our capacities to manufacture these drones are no longer outmatched by Russia,” Kamyshin said.

He added that Ukraine also produces other types of drones that contribute to successful military operations.

“Behind all explosions in Russia is our work,” he said.
