The Prime minister of the so-called DPR Aleksandr Zakharchenko confirmed in his interview Russia 24 that his forces have recently received 1,200 fighters who had undergone training in Russia. According to his words, terrorists do not hide there are many Russians among them and they would have “met a lot of difficulties” without their help. “There are 1,200 individuals who have gone through training over a four-month period on the territory of the Russian Federation and who have been introduced here at the most decisive moment,” said Zakharchenko. Many among the rebel fighters admit to being Russian volunteers or veterans who received training in the Rostov region before crossing the border.

Region’s defense council will be held today in the building of Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration under instructions of Dnipropetrovsk governor Ihor, deputy head of the state administration Svyatoslav Oliynyk writes in his Facebook. He explains the council consists of heads of military divisions, force authorities and military registration offices. Heads of Zaporizhzhya regional state administration are also asked to join the meeting. “Considering the fact that all the world says Russian troops have invaded Ukraine, we need to think about our defense. All volunteer forces in the region should be put on an alert to defend populated areas,” Svyatoslav Oliynyk writes.

The campaign for early parliamentary elections in Ukraine will start on Thursday, August 28. The elections will be held on October 26. In compliance with applicable laws parliamentary elections are held under proportional-majority electoral system: 225 deputies are elected under lists of political forces; other 225 deputies – from majority constituencies. Ukraine used to have 225 deputies from the constituencies, but since Crimea and Sevastopol had as many as 12, the figure has been changed. Crimea’s residents could vote on Ukraine’s continent. Refugees from the peninsula and Donbas could vote following their current places of residence. CEC hopes the current parliament will come to the decision how locals in ATO zone will be voting. May be borders of election districts in Donetsk and Luhansk regions need to be changed to enable people to vote safely.
