Over the past week, disinformation was being spread on the Viber messenger about “wiretapping”, “recording of all calls and texts via messengers”, and “total social media monitoring” by the Security Service of Ukraine, StopFake reports.
Disseminating such fake news about the SSU benefits the aggressor country: thus, Russia is likely attempting to push Ukrainians to lose trust in the state institutions and undermine Ukraine’s unity. In reality, the claims about wiretapping and monitoring all Ukrainians’ online activity are absurd, as the SSU would simply not have the needed capacity for the “total monitoring” of the multi-million Ukrainian population.
