Russia has committed another war crime by mass murdering the Ukrainian POWs in occupied Olenivka, Donetsk region. Russian armed forces carried out a targeted artillery shelling of a penal colony where Ukrainian prisoners, among them – Azovstal defenders, were being held. As a result, 53 Ukrainian captives were reportedly killed.
This is yet another false flag operation to accuse Ukraine of committing “war crimes”, as well as to hide the torture and executions of prisoners. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine underlines that the AFU, thanks to the high-precision weapons received from partner countries, deliver extremely accurate strikes only on Russian military objects.
What Ukraine has found to confirm that Russia is to blame for the attack:
- The Ukrainian Directorate of Intelligence claims that the killing of Ukrainian prisoners in Olenivka, Donetsk Oblast, was organized by the Wagner Group on the personal instructions of Yevgeny Prigozhin, without coordination with the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
- The Security Service of Ukraine later disclosed intercepted telephone conversations in which Russian occupiers confirm that Russian troops were responsible for the explosion in the building where the Ukrainian prisoners were held.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service, the Main Intelligence Directorate and the representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine issued a joint statement addressing the UN and the Red Cross as guarantors of the life and health of the defenders of Azovstal.
