On the evening of April 28, the Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on a residential area of Kyiv. The Russians attacked the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city during the stay of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the capital. Vira Hyrych, a journalist and producer of Radio Liberty, died as a result of the shelling.
Radio Svoboda reported the death of the colleague.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, there were two hits on the lower floors of a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. 4 people were injured and hospitalized.
The SES of Ukraine informed that a fire broke out in a 25-story residential building with partial destruction of the 1st and 2nd floors as a result of enemy shelling.
On the morning of April 29, rescuers found the body while dismantling the rubble of the house. The deceased was Vira Hyrych, a journalist and producer of Radio Liberty.
UCMC expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased.
This shelling of Kyiv by the Russians was particularly cynical, as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was in the capital. He arrived in Kyiv just after he visited Putin.
It will be recalled that Russia is still a member of the UN Security Council. That is, a member of the UN Security Council fired missiles at the city where the UN Secretary-General was.
“Missile strikes on the center of the capital during the official visit of the UN Secretary-General. The day before yesterday, Antonio Guterres was sitting at a long table in the Kremlin, and today explosions were heard a kilometer away from him. Message from Moscow? Recall why Russia still holds a seat on the UN Security Council?” wrote Mykhailo Podoliak, an Adviser to the Head of the Office of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
