73 years ago, on 21 of October 1947, Soviet authorities conducted largest deportation – codename operation “West” – of people from Western Ukraine to Siberia and Kazakhstan.
76,192 people, mostly women, children and elderly, had to abandon their land and belongings to be transported and live in horrible conditions and be forcefully employed in places requiring hard physical labor.
These were 26,644 families of active underground resistance members that were trying to fight Soviet occupation of Ukraine.
The atrocities of Soviet era, actively whitewashed and glorified by modern Russia, should not be forgotten!
