Overview
Controlling corruption while increasing levels of accountability and effectiveness are the keys to improved governance in Ukraine. The record so far has been mixed. Progress is clearly being made in some areas, while evidently failing in others. In this half-day roundtable seminar, speakers from international organizations and the Ukrainian government will review Ukraine’s efforts in moving towards a more effective ‘open-access’ governance system and the progress to date with anti-corruption reform. Particular attention will be devoted to the specific efforts at the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in tackling corruption in state procurement.
The relative strengths and weaknesses in state’s and civil society’s abilities to reform will also be discussed, along with suggestions for how Western donors can best offer support.
