From February 24 to September 20, 2022, at least 270 religious buildings were damaged or completely destroyed as a result of the armed attack of the Russian Federation. These are churches, synagogues, mosques, educational and administrative buildings of religious communities of Ukraine. Destruction was recorded in 14 regions. The largest number of destroyed religious buildings in Donetsk (67), Luhansk (58), Kyiv (43) and Kharkiv (35) regions.
In total, the Russian military destroyed or damaged 270 buildings. Including: 260 – Christian, 5 – Muslim and 5 Jewish.
30 belong to Protestant communities, 21 to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), 4 to the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), 3 to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC). 66 buildings belong to communities of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
52% (136 objects) of the 260 damaged Christian buildings that were completely or partially destroyed as a result of the Russian attack belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
