The long-awaited meeting with the leaders of the US, Germany, UK, and France was postponed due to President Biden opting to cancel his visit. This news caused an uproar in the Ukrainian media, featuring a lot of takes that paint Biden’s decision that the military aid will be lessening for Ukraine.
However, such a fatalistic approach does not necessarily correspond to the truth. Moreover, it plays directly into the narratives of the Russian propaganda. In reality, Biden’s decision to cancel his visit is linked not to war fatigue or not being willing to speak on behalf of Ukraine, but to the crisis that is currently occurring in the US. The hurricane in Florida presents a real national threat, which requires President Biden’s presence and guidance. Reversedly, his opting to leave his own country during a crisis would not be fitting for a democratic leader.
