Top Hybrid Influences of the Week in Ukraine

2021-08-13-Top hybrid influences

Read the most recent hybrid influences we have detected within #HybridWeekly:

  • This week, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the communication strategy for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration until 2025. The pro-Kremlin party “Opposition Platform – For Life” has attacked the Ukrainian government for spending the budget funds on pro-NATO propaganda and pushed disinformation that Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration is supported by the minority of the nation, while the recent surveys of Ukrainians show quite the opposite. Pro-Kremlin forces are the main disseminators of myths about NATO – with the aim of demonizing the organization as opposed to the Russian vector.
  • In the light of the future summit of Ukrainian and US presidents, the promotion of the “external governance” narrative has intensified. Pro-Russian forces promote the idea that Ukraine is becoming just “another state of the US” and, therefore, has lost its sovereignty. They portray the US as a “colonizer”, attempting to set their target audience against Ukraine’s partnership with Washington and undermine the relations between the two states.
  • In the recent press conference, Lukashenko mentioned that he might recognize Russia’s sovereignty over the temporarily occupied Crimea. This has caused Russian state-controlled media and pro-Russian media in Ukraine to disseminate the message that soon Belarus will recognize Crimea as a part of Russia. The aim is to create at least some appearance of support for the Russian occupation of the peninsula, as the vast majority of the international community continues to condemn the annexation.
