Discovering Ukraine’s unknown art: Les Lozovskyi

A little-known but exceptional Ukrainian artist, whose fate reflects the stormy events of the last century, Les Lozovskyi lived a short and incredibly rich life in the atmosphere of Kyiv’s flourishing artistic life.

The figure of the artist is mysterious and little studied, and UCMC’s press centre has contributed to rediscovering his legacy while hosting a series of events dedicated to Lozovskyi and curated by Daria Prydybailo.

In 2022, 100 years have passed since the artist’s death. Lozovskyi was found murdered under mysterious circumstances when he was only 22 years old. There are very few works of the artist left, but each of them is impressive. He could have taken a prominent place in the world art but, sadly, got lost in the maelstrom of Russia’s political pressure on Ukraine.

It is time to give proper attention to Lozovskyi’s work, still relevant today, and this issue of Ukraine In Flames is dedicated to just that.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
