For every Ukrainian, the statement „Russia is a terrorist state” is self-evident. However, the status of a state sponsor of terrorism requires a complicated legal procedure.
The mechanism of state recognition has to include such criteria as support of terrorist organizations, a commission of terrorist attacks by agents of the terrorist state itself, and organization, and support of cyber terrorism. Financial cooperation with states recognized as sponsors of terrorism becomes complicated by restrictions.
On the other hand, imposing a status of a terrorist state on Russia also would mean transaction restrictions on individuals and legal entities and restrictions on participation in financial transactions with the Russian Federation, which would essentially weaken Russia’s economy and, as a result, its ability to sponsor war.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
