Presidency of the UN Security Council or expulsion from the organization: what awaits Russia?

After over a year of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the aggressor state still has veto power for every UN security council resolution.

Remaining a UN member while openly committing war crimes in Ukraine, Russia discredits democratic institutions all over the world.

As the procedure of Russia gaining UN membership remains illegal, Russia uses its influence in international institutions to undermine democracy and global security in the world. Despite Russia’s war of annihilation against Ukraine, there is still no legal procedure to remove the aggressor state from the UN Security Council and prevent it from vetoing UN Security Council resolutions condemning aggression against Ukraine.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
