During Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the personality of Alexei Navalny still represents Russian opposition in the West.
In 2023, an Oscar award for the documentary about a jailed politician proved it once again. However, in Russia, even the most “liberal” politicians and activists still operate in the imperial paradigm. Otherwise, they do not exist.
Taking into consideration Navalny’s controversial statements about the Russian occupation of Crimea, and Ukrainians and Russians being “fraternal peoples”, his vision of Ukraine is still a part of the Russian neocolonial approach. And this is another threat to Ukraine and its sovereignty.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
