Can the US and EU block Russian liquefied natural gas? Ukraine in Flames #535

Recent geopolitical tensions between Russia and the West have sparked considerable debate over energy security and dependence on Russian fossil fuels, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In response to the Kremlin’s ongoing war in Ukraine and other aggressive actions by the Russian government, the United States and the European Union have taken significant steps to reduce their dependence on Russian LNG imports. This is a really important step for Western leaders because it is a matter of their energy independence and security and economic challenges associated with additional costs.

President Biden’s executive order banning imports of Russian LNG to the United States and the creation of a joint task force by President Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen demonstrate a joint effort to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels. All this raises the security level of Ukrainian partners and reduces Russian profits, making it easier for the Kremlin to wage war.
