Due to Russia’s aggressive stance, face-to-face negotiations between Ukrainian President Zelensky and Russian President Putin are impossible. Putin’s encroaching foreign policy has developed a deep cleavage between democratic Ukraine and the authoritarian Russian Federation.
Russia’s unwillingness to engage in meaningful dialogue hindered any efforts to seek diplomatic solutions. The Russian ongoing genocidal full-scale war against Ukraine cannot be stopped in the way of a peace agreement due to the Russian tradition of lying and breaking duties for no real reason.
Moreover, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, which is Kyiv’s primary demand, would mean Putin losing the war and destabilising his regime because of an unfulfilled promise with catastrophic casualties. Therefore, negotiations with the Russian aggressor remain only a matter of fantasy.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
