The Aftermath of the Russian Attack on the Kakhovka Dam

In June 2023, Russian occupation forces caused one of the most significant artificial disasters of the 21st century. The explosion of the dam of the Kakhovka HPP caused the overflow of the Kakhovka Reservoir, the flooding of numerous areas on both banks of the Dnipro River, the shallowing of canals and irrigation systems, as well as the shallowing of the cooling basin of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

Even though numerous conventions protect such objects as “objects containing a dangerous force” that cannot be controlled, at the same time, the Kremlin authorities tried to withdraw all accusations, as well as to avoid punishment for the committed war crime.

At the same time, responsibility for undermining the dam should be held because the man-made disaster caused by the Russian troops took the lives of many animals and caused irreparable damage to the established natural environment.
