“The Wall” artistic project Lev Skop and “Cactus” artistic team

Artistic project “The Wall” is a composition of authentic wooden pieces of various sizes on which icons of Ukraine’s most respected saints are painted. The exhibition is of educational nature and aims at presenting traditional Ukrainian icon-painting to the audience. Its unique manner combines Ukrainian tradition, mentality and soul with Byzantine motives and European ideas of beauty. Thus the tradition of Ukrainian icon-painting is revived and continued. Artist and arts experts Lev Skop has been restoring interior decoration of the Saint Yura Church in Drohobych, Lviv region for about 30 years. The church is part of the UNESCO heritage. Wooden shingles (gonta) started to be changed in the church. The artist has been using the pieces to paint icons on them. That’s how a new take on sacred art appeared. Students of Lev Skop and participants of the “Cactus” artistic team accepted and develop the idea. Artists’ worksform “The Wall” exhibition.
