Ukrainian railway infrastructure is often targeted by Russia as a key way to evacuate people, transport military and humanitarian aid. Despite constant threat, the Ukrainian railway workers continue rescuing Ukrainians, repairing infrastructure damaged by the enemy, and providing reliable logistics.
The strike of the Russian invaders on the railway station in Kramatorsk on April 9 was one of Russia’s most bloody war crimes, taking the lives of 52 people and injuring 109.
Among the most recent attacks of the enemy targeting railway – 4 missiles fired at the Darnytsia Railcar Repair Plant on June 5 in Kyiv, completely destroying several shops and injuring a railway worker. For 87 years, this plant repaired and manufactured freight cars, which transported exclusively civilian products: coal, gravel, ore, etc.
The employees of the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia risk their lives daily amidst Russian shelling and missile attacks but continue working restlessly to bring Ukraine’s victory closer. As of the start of June, Ukrzaliznytsia evacuated around 4 million Ukrainians from the places of hostilities to the western regions of Ukraine; took 600,000 Ukrainians abroad; rescued around 100,000 pets; delivered 100,000 tons of humanitarian aid; brought around 100 foreign delegations to Ukraine.
