After over a year of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, sanctions remain the only way to undermine the aggressor’s capacity to finance the war. However, some of them can be bypassed by Russia.
The 11th package of anti-Russia sanctions is mostly focused on strengthening already existing limitations. Meanwhile, some of the crucial directions, such as Russian nuclear fuel and diamonds, are important for some of the EU members.
While the West is considering the possibility to impose secondary sanctions against third countries for trading with Russia, some countries, such as France, Hungary Bulgaria, and Belgium, continue to oppose sanctions against Rosatom and the Russian diamonds industry.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
