Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants commit nine ceasefire violations, the majority involve mortars

Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire nine times in eastern Ukraine yesterday, the majority of attacks involved 120-mm and 82-mm mortars. Militants fired a total of 41 mortar rounds at Ukrainian positions, reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Donetsk sector, militants violated the ceasefire seven times using 120-mm mortars near Talakivka and Shyrokyne and twice near Vodiane. “In addition, they used 82-mm mortars in Talakivka and Vodiane areas,” added the spokesman. In Avdiivka area militants attacked Ukrainian positions with small arms.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies opened fire twice near Zaitseve. Both attacks involved various light weapons, including grenade launchers and weapons of infantry fighting vehicles.

Ukrainian servicemen returned fire four times, using weapons not proscribed under the Minsk agreements.

Fortunately, Ukrainian troops incurred no casualties in action yesterday.
